If you're in
need of health care services on the Mississippi Coast, area medical
resources abound. The Coast is currently served by seven major hospitals,
two specialty hospitals, and the Keesler Air Force Base Medical
Center.
With over 1,100 physicians, these facilities offer a wide range
of services including neurology, open-heart surgery, cardiac catherization,
hyperbaric oxygen treatments, cancer diagnosis and treatment, gastroenterology,
orthopedics, lithotripsy, urology, pediatrics/neonatal care, hospice,
dialysis, and rehabilitation services. In addition to Keesler Medical
Center, a clinic exists at the Naval Construction Battalion Center
to serve Seabees and their dependents. There are also two Veterans
Affairs Medical Centers in Biloxi and Gulfport, in addition to the
U.S. Naval Home in Gulfport.
Most hospitals offer Physician Referral Network services to make
locating a physician much easier, as a new resident.
Special mental health facilities also exist on the Coast. Located
in Biloxi, Gulf Oaks Hospital (228-388-0600) is operated by Gulf
Coast Medical Center. Memorial Behavioral Services (800-831-1700)
is located in Gulfport and is part of the Memorial Hospital network
of services. New facilities continued to be added and improved on
the Mississippi Coast. Since 1998, over $90 million has been invested
in a new state-of-the art hospital, two outpatient clinics, and
a major medical office building.
The Columbia Garden Park Hospital opened its $52 million facility
in the growing Orange Grove area of Gulfport in early 2000. The
212,000 square foot facility features 130 beds and a variety of
specialties on-site. The Cedar Lake Medical Center opened in early
1999 and continues to expand to meet outpatient needs in the growing
North Biloxi area.
Biloxi
Regional Medical Center continued its expansion with the opening
of its $10 million medical office building in early 2001.
With
a large number of residents moving north of Interstate 10, Memorial
Hospital has acquired land at the growing Highway 53 & 49 intersection
for a $20 million medical mall. There are also a variety of home
health care agencies, nursing homes and assisted living facilities
on the Coast to cater to your particular needs.
