Seniors are a valuable asset to non-profit organizations whose limited budgets and staffs appreciate an extra set of helping hands. Seniors have the life experience that makes them a treasured resource. Many seniors find the opportunity to volunteer a rewarding way to keep active, stay involved in their community and share the life lessons they've learned along the way. Flexibility is another feature of volunteering. There are a variety of organizations that could use a few hours of your help and would be grateful for your time whether you would like to help on occasion, monthly or weekly.

RSVP, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, matches interested seniors ages 55 and up with a variety of Coast organizations who need help. RSVP volunteers choose how and where they want to serve. You can contact RSVP at (228) 867-6537 or Pat.RSVP@digiscape.com

The Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, a "hands-on" children's museum in Gulfport, is one of the state's most popular tourist attractions. Volunteers are needed to help guide visitors through the interactive exhibits. "Volunteers truly make a difference here," says Oona Kidane, Volunteer Coordinator, "They are our ambassadors who give our visitors a sense of community." Tours are available those interested in volunteering. You can contact Kidane at (228) 897-6039 ext. 14. Lynn Meadows Discovery Center

Moore Community House, a mission agency of the United Methodist Church, provides a range of services for low-income families, such as quality childcare, school-age enrichment programs, and support for teen parents. They are in need of childcare workers, storytellers and office help. They can be reached at (228) 436-3741 or moorech@infi.net

The Gulf Coast Symphony is celebrating its 40th year of bringing fine musical performances to the Coast. The Symphony Guild is seeking volunteers to work as ushers at concerts, assist at fundraisers and help with mailings.  Contact them at (228) 435-9800 or www.gulfcoastsymphony.net
